As you may know, November is National Adoption Awareness Month. It's also Movember... obviously Thanksgiving... and officially 1 month since we got married! Last summer I started tossing around the idea of starting a blog about our adoption process. A vlog is more up Jedd's ally -- so we decided to create a little bit of both. IOWAdopt was created aaaaaand then sat unpublished for months. We ALMOST went live last year, but felt like we wouldn't have anything interesting to share because we just couldn't move forward with much of the adoption process until after the wedding. SO I sat on this domain that I purchased for an entire year.
We've been talking a lot lately about adopting and our newfound openness to fostering. We've both read lots of articles and a few books here or there, and listened to some podcasts, joined countless facebook groups for support and ideas... but hadn't taken any REAL action. Well, today that changed.
We submitted an inquiry to Four Oaks (an incredible, local nonprofit organization) for more information about their fostering program. They require a virtual orientation AND it just so happens that the only one we are able to attend for the next few months is TOMORROW. So we're jumping right in! This orientation will be purely informational, and from the sounds of it they'll just walk us through next steps.... certifications, training required, home study, etc.
We did not plan to find this training information and launch our blog all on National Adoption Day.... but, it was meant to be. It's not much yet, but it's a start, and we're so excited to be parents and to share this journey with you!
